Arri Lighting

Barbizon NAB 2015 - Arri L Series LED FresnelsWith all the excitement about new products, it’s always hard to find space in the Arri exhibit at NAB. All for good reason. Arri debuted a new addition to their range of L-Series LED Fresnels, and introduced us to a new LED softlight.

The L10-C, big brother to the L7-C color tunable LED Fresnel, sports a 10” lens, 15-50 degree beam angle, and a full RGBW color gamut with Hue and Saturation control allowing for variable color temperature between 2,800-10,000K. This 400W LED Fresnel is DMX controlled with smooth dimming from 0-100%. Arri’s biggest and brightest LED offering, the L10 provides a viable LED fixture option for where only 2kW tungsten Fresnel previously dared to tread. Additional units in the L-Series are the L5, and L7 which are available in –C (color mixing), -T Tunable Tungsten (2,600-3,600K) and –D Tunable Daylight (5,00-6,500K). *L10-C is available in May 2015 with the L10-T and –D available 3rd quarter 2015.

Barbizon NAB 2015 - Arri Sky PanelBringing back a softlight to the lighting lineup Arri introduced SkyPanel - a compact, ultra-bright and high-quality LED soft light SkyPanel is initially available in two sizes: the S60 and S30. The S60 is a midrange model, featuring a light aperture of 645 x 300 mm and similar to the 2K Zip of old. The S30 is a smaller, more portable version. Both models are available in fully color tunable and remote phosphor versions. Like the L-Series, SkyPanel ‘C’ (Color) versions are fully tunable; correlated color temperature is adjustable between 2,800 K and 10,000 K, with excellent color rendition over the entire range. Full plus and minus green correction can be achieved with the simple turn of a knob, and in addition to CCT control, vivid color selection and saturation adjustment is also possible. Brighter than a 2 kW tungsten soft light or a 6 kW tungsten space light, the SkyPanel S60 has more than enough light for most applications. Fully Dimmable, the unit is also able provide uniform, high quality illumination at lower light levels. Fixed Color Temperature units (2700K, 3200K, 4300K, 5600K and 6500K) are available using remote phosphor technology. These S60-RP (Remote Phosphor) and S30-RP units are both brighter, and less expensive than the –C color tunable versions. For versatility, Remote Phosphor panels can be swapped to achieve full brightness in the fixed color temperature of your choice.

Backstage Equipment Carts

Barbizon Lighting NAB 2015 - Backstage-CartsBackstage introduced their new Mini Carts. The purpose for these mini carts was to fit in Sprinter mobile vans that are now being used for carrying gear for production work. These carts are reduced in size and are more compact.

BBS Lighting

Barbizon NAB 2015 - BBS Lighting PipelineBBS Lighting, known for their innovative Area48 remote phosphor LED luminaire introduces the Pipeline LED System. In a convenient cylindrical form factor in lengths of 1' 2' 3' and 4', the Pipeline remote phosphor provides high CRI soft light that is controllable and dimmable with no color shift or flickering. Whether installed in an optional single or multi-lamp reflector bank, or used stand-alone, the 180 degree Pipeline sources are an effective soft-light lamp for modeling faces and illuminating backgrounds.

Among Pipeline’s numerous advantages are low power draw, high light output, wide light dispersion, heatless and fan-less operation. Control of 1’ and 2’ sections is achieved by single channel in-line dimmers and the 3’ and 4’ pipelines are controlled via wireless DMX 512 controller. The Pipes are available in 3200K, 4300K or 5600K color temperature outputs, and can be used in a bi-color arrangement mixing different color temperature Pipes to achieve mid-range color temperatures.

Brightline showed LED fixtures from both their studio and videoconferencing lines of products. For the studio, they showed the new LED SeriesONE, the new L-CL Chin Light, and the BL.16.

The new LED SeriesOne is a remote phosphor softlight fixture based on the form-factor of Brighline’s classic SeriesONE fluorescent fixtures. The new units can even make use of studio’s existing inventories of fixture accessories such as intensifiers and screens. The LED SeriesONE is dimmable via DMX with no color shift and available in 3200K and 5600K at >95 CRI. Brightline if focusing on controlling color consistency of their remote phosphor by binning the LEDs to a tolerance of not more than 3nm within a manufacturing run. They can be powered from 120, 230, or 277 Volt sources and draw 192W.

The L-CL Chin Light uses the same remote phosphor technology as the LED SeriesOne in a compact, 15” x 3” x 4.75” package (dimensions include mounting hardware). The 18W L-CL is powered via a 6’ low-voltage, coaxial cable which connects the unit to a DMX controlled power supply. Up to four sequentially addressed units can be individually controlled from one power supply making this a great solution for multi-anchor desks.

Barbizon NAB 2015 - Brightline LED Series OneThe BL.16 is a 60W fixture with 16 LEDs in a rectangular 4x4 array. The fixture uses interchangeable optic cartridges in both Daylight and Tungsten, with Broad, Medium, and Narrow beams. The beam can be further shaped using mini control screens as well as three lengths of snoots. The BL.16 is dimmable via DMX, but also offers phase (mains) dimming as an option for direct retrofit into 120-230V studio dimming systems.

For videoconferencing, Brighline showed their LED VideoPlus and LVP-360 fixtures. Designed for mounting in drop-ceiling grids with no extension below the ceiling plane these fixtures provide task lighting and directional lighting for video. Both use remote phosphor technology in 3200K or 5600K at >95 CRI. Fixtures can be fed from switched 120, 230, or 277V sources and dimmed via analog (0-10V) or DMX. Fixture draw is determined by configuration and can be limited to meet energy code requirements. The larger VideoPlus fixtures receive low-voltage power and control from a ceiling or rack mounted power and control box. The smaller LVP-360 can be powered from these as well or from an integral power and data supply.

The LED VideoPlus fixtures have a 5” wide aperture and are available in 2’ and 4’ lengths. To understand the options for these fixtures it is easiest to imagine them installed end-to-end in a row over the centerline of a conference table. The first option is task only lighting. This option provides lighting below the fixture with a 55 degree beam spread to illuminate the top of the table. To this base lighting, Brightline then adds LEDs in the same fixture housing which are aimed at 45 degrees to the side. These have a 25 degree beam spread and are intended to provide front light to the people sitting along the conference table. The video and task lighting beams are designed to overlap slightly to provide even lighting. Depending on the requirements of the room, either one or both sides of the table can be illuminated.

The LVP-360 provides additional flexibility beyond that offered by the LED VideoPlus. The LVP-360 is a 1’ section of LED VideoPlus with the task downlight plus one bank of 45 degree angled video lighting. This 1’ unit is mounted in a circular plate integrated with a 2’ x 2’ ceiling tile. The unit can be aimed by rotating the fixture within the ceiling tile to provide more traditional key, fill, and back lighting angles than are offered by the LED VideoPlus. Brightline sees this being especially useful for single-person shots, such as a CEO’s office. The smaller size could also be used for the ends of the table in a traditional conference room where the main portion of the table is lit with the LED VideoPlus.
