The star of the NAB show for Frezzi is the advancement of the Frezzi HyLight with the introduction of the new Skylight.  Drawing only 75 watts, the Skylight has the equivalent light output of a 650 watt tungsten or 125 watt HMI and in a compact fixture 10”x5”x2” weighing only 4.25 lbs.  The compact size coupled with the AC power supply or Frezzi FLB-100 battery make this ideal for traveling.

This year at NAB Creamsource showed the solidly built, Mini 1x1 light available in three flavors. This very bright light boosts 4 times as much output as competing 1x1 fixtures.  It has built in DMX, dimming from 0-100% and integrated effects such as strobe and lightning flicker.

The Creamsource Mini Classic has 36 high power LEDs. Available in both Tungsten and Daylight color temperatures, it has similar light output to a 200W HMI, but draws only 90W.

The Creamsource Mini Doppio has 60 high power LEDs with double density spacing. Available in both Tungsten and Daylight color temperatures, it has similar light output to a 400W HMI, but draws only 155W.



The Creamsource Mini Bender is a bi-color fixture, and the color temperature can be smoothly adjusted from around 2700K to 6500K. With 60 high power LEDs, it has similar output to a 200W HMI (or a 400W HMI when running in the middle of the color temperature range)

These same units are available in double wide 1 x 2 with same features as the minis. The Creamsource units are ready to accept Chimera softboxes.

This year Prism Projection had the RevEAL Studio a Fresnel with high lumen output, tunable CCT from 2800-8000K, and beam quality guaranteed by TrueSource™ color management technology.  The unit provides 7600 lumens, local, DMX, and ethernet control options including color, intensity and spot/flood (20-70°). In addition, with the MicroLouver beam shaping accessory, the beam can be controlled to cut light analogous to barn doors for conventional lighting fixtures.

They also showed the Profile Junior a tunable white, true high-CRI, LED profile spot with high lumen output. The Profile Junior's size and weight are similar to conventional tungsten source ellipsoidals.  The new 10,000-lumen fixture features a variable CCT range of 2800K to 6500K. It has adjustable focus from hard to soft edge and accommodates all standard ETC SOURCE FOUR® lens barrels. It also offers four shutters on a tri-plane; a B-Sized GOBO; DMX, Artnet and local control; and universal AC input from 85-265 VAC.

Finally Prism showed the PowerNET which allows for DMX control over the existing power grid.   Thus the system eliminates the need for the DMX infrastructure.  The system can handle 1000s of lighting units by taking ArtNet or DMX out of a console into the PowerNet unit.   PowerNet then directly controls the Prism fixtures plugged into the power grid.  Look Mom no DMX cable!

This year Matthews Studio Equipment introduces a new array of camera platforms and accessories.

The new ‘Intel-A-Jib LITE’ is a sturdy, lightweight jib arm. This high performance jib is constructed with the same X-Box aluminum beam as its big brother the ‘Intel-A-Jib.’ When paired with the ‘UnderSling LITE,’ the operator is free to work, at ground level, as high as they can reach without any obstruction from the arm itself. This system is beautifully simple and sets up quickly without tools.  The maximum weight capacity at Full Stick is 20 lbs. and 45 lbs. at Short Stick. The ‘Intel-A-Jib’ weighs in at 45 lbs in case and requires 100mm bowl tripod with a 100lbs. payload.

The Matthews-Slider is light weight and sturdy due to its open frame design. It is maintenance free and field adjustable. The stainless bearings coupled with the ceramic balls make it fast and quiet.  While the Matthews-Slider is available in three basic sizes, 29”, 35” and 45” it is available in  custom sizes in increments of 4.5” up to 12’.  It allows an inverted camera position for low angle shots and can accept a second carriage for A and B cameras on the same track. The 360 degree Swiveling Mitchel Base can be mounted at any point along the frames cross members.  This system has many great features and comes read to work. It has too many accessories and working configurations to mention them all here. The Matthews-Slider is another quality product, at an affordable price.

The Makalu is a lightweight remote head providing pan and tilt for live action, visual effects or time lapse shooting. The interface is a multi axis jog control via wi-fi to an iPad mini. This configuration gives precise control and by adding a sync box, it will give frame accurate repeatable motion control shots.

Specifically designed for the Matthews HD & DC-Sliders, this wireless remote focus unit allows you to record and sync with linear motion control. It uses nine memory banks to provide programmable functionality and has a range of almost 500 feet of open air distance.

Aadyn had two new fixtures to add to their domestically-made LED lighting Line.

The new ECO Space LED Light features 20 LED and measures 52 Foot Candles at 25'.  The CRI rating of 95+ is the only LED fixture available on the market today.  Super bright and high quality light in one solution. The fixture has no UV or IR emissions and is certified for UL, ETL, CSA, CE and RoHS compliance. The Space Light is equipped with an industry standard PowerCon locking A/C cord.

JAB Hurricane LED is The JAB Hurricane is weatherproof, IP65 Rated, totally protected against dust and protected against low pressure water jets. Several pieces of big new from our friend at Nila this year.  Remote
Phosphor protype fixtures were on display and  will soon be available for purchase in Boxer, Versa and 1/2 Varsa (working title) models. Anyone has a suggestion for a cool new name for the 1/2 Versa, the factory would love to hear from you.

The 1/2 Varsa will be fanless, includes a 6 LED cluster and consume less than 37 watts.  It will replacing the NH unit in the existing line.  An ENG kit will be available.  Details to follow shortly.

The brand new 90w fan-less Varsa fixture was on display!  The Lumen output equivalent to a 400 HMI.  Perfect for locations shoots, ENG, small studio's and Architectural applications. ENG kit will be available in a stock size that will include two heads.  It includes rotating barn doors, both AC 100v to 240v and DC 10 to 18v switching power supply which are hot swappable.

"Chroma Duet - Junior" For LED. Very cool way to compare LED fixtures
and Tungsten sources on camera.  It's a combination of two charts.  The
front color chart is light with a traditional tungsten source and the
identical back color chart is let with the LED fixtures your testing.
The front charge has holes cut in each color square and when properly
lined up with the back chart, your camera can act as your color meter.
This is a far more accurate way to measure color for LED lights
especially since LED's do not create a full color spectrum and can
easily generate false reading from a color meter.

"ChromaMatch"
The days of needing your old Vector Scope and Wave Monitor are officially
over!  The new DSC Laboratories "ChromaMatch" is a combination of
electronic chart and paper chart in a split screen.  When displayed on a
Sony O-LED monitor of broadcast quality (BVME250 recommended), shading
can properly balance the digital signal against the paper chart being
light by any combination of lighting fixtures technology to deliver a
perfect match.  As a foot note this O-LED LCD monitor is considered by
many to be the closet to CRT quality available today.

At this years NAB, Manfrotto showcases their NEW lineup of Spectra series LED 1x1 panels. These high quality LED panels will be geared towards the independent photographer or videographer to be the lightest and most compact units on the market.

These units are available in daylight spot and flood versions as well as a bi-color unit to accurately blend light for various shooting conditions without the need for gels. To more directly address the specific needs of field productions these units can be powered with professional DC batteries via an optional adapter.

Manfrotto also unveiled the new 500 lightweight heads which boasts a wider platform for HDSLR bodies and the sliding plate travels to balance the latest interchangeable lens cameras.  Faster, easier and safer to use: the side lock system allows the camera and sliding QR plate to click quickly into the head from above, instead of needing to be aligned and slid in from the back.
