Barbizon Systems Team in Florida played a vital role in the design, installation and implementation of Telefutura Studios Stage B in Miami, FL. The studio is home to Escandalo, a daily entertainment program featuring musical acts, topical issues, and entertainment personalities. One of the challenges facing Telefutura was the fact that the space was below three floors of active office space.

Barbizon Florida Systems Manager, Chip Schane, worked closely with the architect, Antonio Cantillo to design an insert support structure from which to suspend the pipe grid without transferring weight load to the surrounding floors. Stage B was also unique because many different productions take place within the course of the week and a series of ETC Unison push button stations enable the weekend staff to bring up looks from the floor without use of the console or the RRFU. Rounding out the integration for the ETC Net 2 system, was a series of portable touring nodes and stationary nodes, an ETC Insight 3 and a Martin Light Jockey for Intelligent Lighting Control. Barbizon was involved in this project from inception to completion, meeting all deadlines and on budget. For more information on the Telefutura installation, contact Barbizon Orlando's Chip Schane at 407.999.2647.

Tom McGrath in our London office shares his story about his travels to Amman, Jordan.

I responded to an internet quote request for Arri Lighting and Chimera Light banks from a company in Amman, Jordan. This is a large events production company with a lot of experience in lighting events, concerts, exhibitions, etc, but when it came to video production lighting, they needed our help. After identifying their needs, we agreed on a complete package, but had to scramble to arrange the goods to arrive within their required schedule. I was then invited to travel to Amman to train their crew on the finer points of the equipment, and video lighting in general because the shoot they were about to do was for lighting a ceremony and press conference with King Abdullah II of Jordan and President Vladimir Putin of Russia.

The morning after arriving in Jordan, we were off to the Royal Palace for a site visit. Both events were to take place in the same large and ornate palace hall (two lighting setups) that had large stained-glass and clear windows. As beautiful as the room was, the windows created a gaffers nightmare. The bright Middle-Eastern sun shining through the windows created color temperature problems (and color problems with the stained-glass), but was solved by the installation of natural muslin as a diffuser.

Arri Fresnel Kits and Chimera Video-Pro Soft banks lit the main podiums with additional Fresnels for backlights and kickers. After three long and stressful yet successful days, the conference was over and all parties were very happy with the lighting results. In fact, my new customers were so pleased; they’re booking their next job using their new gear.

It is not often that I need to pass through multiple security checkpoints to get into a jobsite, but it’s also not often that the site is a Palace, and the job is with two heads of state. The end result was a very happy customer, and that’s what it’s all about!

ReRun is a simple to operate DMX512 recorder that allows complex shows to be recorded from a full featured lighting console, and then played back by an inexperienced operator without the console present.

ReRun Architectural mounts in a two gang electrical box and is intended for applications such a nightclub, museum, mall, high-end home lighting, etc.  ReRun Rack Mount is a ReRun in a single unit 19" rack enclosure.  The Rack unit can be ordered to record one, two, three, or four universes of DMX512.  Multiple Rack units can be slaved together for additional universes.   ReRun Portable is enclosed in a water-resistant Pelican box for all portable applications.

All electronics are contained in the small unit; no additional "brain" is required outside the two gang box.  The product is easy to program and operate.  Custom labeling is available on the Architectural model.

The ReRun is very cost effective.  The ReRun is much less expensive to leave behind on a set-and-forget gig than a console and avoids the chance that an inexperienced operator may destroy the show (resulting in a costly field service call).  The ReRun is priced midway among other DMX512 recorders but is much easier to operate than cheap units and has most of the features of more expensive units.  All Doug Fleenor Design products carry a five year warranty.

The Martin Mac 250 Entour features a specially designed dimming system for exceptionally smooth and even dimming. By achieving new standards in light output and image quality, the Entour is ideal for environments where powerful effects are required like stage, studio and event applications, permanent installations and much more.

Superior optics and an extremely user friendly construction make it ideal for the rigors of today's rental market or any production where you need an extremely reliable fixture.

The latest in pan and tilt motor technology produces both smooth and ultra-rapid movement, making the new MAC 250 fixtures the fastest moving heads that Martin has ever produced. Movement range is 540° of pan x 257° of tilt. If knocked out of position, a high-speed, automatic reset function realigns the fixture in seconds.

The Entour is very cost effective with a 250 W long life discharge lamp. It saves on power consumption while the excellent optics still give a lot of brightness for a 250w lamp.

The natural devitrification of quartz and silica glass can affect your fixture performance. What does this mean to you and what should you do? Devitrification occurs when the product is used at high temperatures over a long period of time, or it is heated while impurities adhere to its surface. Even very small impurities on the surface can have a major influence on the performance of your fixture.
