 | | | | | This month, Barbizon completed the new Auditorium at West Babylon High School in New York. Designed by the Architectural firm, Burton Behrendt & Smith (BBS), West Babylon has one of the most sophisticated theatrical lighting, sound, and rigging systems on Long Island. The system includes a complex video projection system that can change the space from an auditorium to a movie theatre with the touch of a button. When the projection system preset is activated by the Crestron LCD station, a Desisti automated batten lowers, the ADC curtain machine parts the drapery, the Da-lite projection screen opens and the SM6000 projector spiders out of the auditorium ceiling. The rigging system design was faced with a unique challenge. The stage right wing needed a exit door through 22 line sets of counterweight rigging. As a solution, the system included an elevated platform and 7 double purchase line sets mounted over the door. Safety being today's number one concern, ladders are no longer required to change lamps in the auditorium. The custodial staff can safely access the fixtures by lowering eight Desisti Stage Hoists to ground level. Barbizon’s hands-on-training allowed faculty and students to work with our staff to learn how to properly focus the light plot, program the ETC Expression III lighting console, and learn about the safe way to operate the JR Clancy counterweight rigging system. This high tech facility will not only entertain the community for many years to come, but it will help to train generations of students in technical theatre production on a continuous basis. | The Bron Kobold DW 800 has been designed as a versatile HMI fixture for ENG/EFP and TV/film production. Of course the DW 800 excels in the outdoor production environment, but it’s also well suited for indoor lighting application due to its low power consumption, just 9 amps at 110 volts. One DW 800 can be run on a 1000 watt generator, or two on a single 20 amp household circuit. The DW 800 has the added advantage of an IP 54 rating, which means it can take rain or water splashed at it from any direction. With the output of some 1200’s, this is the one fixture that can get the job done. | | Click here for more information | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | DeSisti has introduced a new version of the 6” Monet 1000 watt fresnel for use in the theatrical world. The new fixture takes advantage of the HPL line of lamps. The new CST (Ceramic Studio Theatre) Fresnel can handle both HPL575 and HPL750 lamps. This means that current users that have Source 4 fixtures in their inventory do not have to stock another type of lamp just for the CST Fresnel. Just like the CST cousin, the Monet, the CST is made from lightweight stainless steel with double wall and internal baffles for efficient ventilation and air circulation. While the Monet has DeSisti’s distinct yellow yoke and accents on the fixture, the CST is coated with high temperature heat resistant black powder coat epoxy paint. | | Click here for more information | ETC’s new Eos lighting console provides simple, control of moving-lights and conventionals. A large fixture library means a patch can be constructed quickly automatically or manually. The command line is fully integrated with direct selects, allowing you to work seamlessly from the keypad and the touchscreen controls. The Eos touchscreen provides flexibility with the tactile response of buttons, so you can keep your eyes on the stage, not the desk. With the EOS no mouse is needed when you access commonly used programming functions. Eos is the latest ETC device that works with their new net 3 protocol. | | Click here for more information | The name Hubbell Wiring Device-Kellems is synonymous with innovation and quality. In keeping with this reputation, Hubbell Wiring Device-Kellems has once again raised the bar by introducing a redesigned line of innovative, high quality, single pole plugs, receptacles and all the accessories for the single pole connector marketplace. The redesigned Hubbell Single Pole Connector line is rated for 600 volts AC and 250 volts DC, up to 400 amps for cable sizes #4 through 4/0. These single pole connectors are the right choice for supplying temporary electrical power distribution for entertainment, theme parks, carnival equipment, concerts, movie making, and numerous other applications requiring temporary power. These single pole connectors have been designed with ease of assembly and disassembly in mind, no special tools are required. A high strength nonconductive retaining screw is all that is needed to securely lock the contacts to the insulated sleeve. | | Click here for more information | Here are some guidelines for getting the most out of your glass gobos. a) For most fixtures, you want the coated side of the glass to face away from the lamp / heat source. Which side is coated?: If you hold an object up to the coated side of a gobo, the object and the reflection will appear to be touching. On the uncoated side, there appears to be a space between the object and the reflection. b) Keep the gobo clean of dirt, oils, and fingerprints. Most gobos can be cleaned either with a soft cloth or isopropyl alcohol be careful to keep the alcohol on the surface rather than getting the edges/ sides wet. c) Bench focus the lamp in the fixture to make the field as flat as possible. Hot spots can cause glass gobos to crack d) In general, try not to “shock” the gobo or any glass element with changes in heat. If glass has been in extreme temperatures, let it warm up or cool down gradually. . It has happened to the best of technicians. A fixture goes bad and needs a new socket, or some other part, that you just don't have handy. Did you know that Barbizon stocks a wide variety of manufacturers' parts? Whether it is the smallest set screw, a replacement connector, or socket, Barbizon can often ship it from stock same day. Maybe it's not a part that is very commonly used or available, or you just can't find it. Put Barbizon to work for you! We'll work closely with the manufacture to get the right piece to you on time. | | Atlanta Boston Charlotte Chicago Dallas Denver London Miami New York Orlando Phoenix Washington, D.C. |
